Hey look, I'm remembering to post to my LJ and I'm even doing it from my dreamwidth.

Watching I, Robot (pretty good so far) and pretending that I'm doing work.

My friends are all at AN this weekend. Sad I'm not there.

This week has been a bit busy. I'm working full time now at my Mom's office doing data entry. It's tedious but I actually enjoy it and it's giving me the opportunity to listen to some audio books.

I've also got 3 job things happening now; only a week ago I had 0. I don't know if any of them are going to work out or how I feel about them but it's nice to know something will happen eventually even if none of these opportunities work out.

I've been downloading and watching a lot of Power Rangers lately. Feel free to judge.

Last night I had a dream that Tasha had a bunch of kittens but couldn't keep them so her borther and father (neither of whom I've ever met) came to destroy them but they were too cute so I stole them. I was going to keep them locked in my room so my dad's allergies wouldn't be aggravated. The kittens were really cute.

Go Canucks!

Okay, so I've made something of a resolution to get back to posting on my LJ because twitter is not a substitute and just because I'm not working is no reason to avoid staying in touch.

Today Lori came over and we did boring things because she's an invalid. The bruises along her jawbone from the surgery make her look quite ill lol. Unfortunately, not ill enough to avoid calling me mean even while I made her soup.

We rented The Experiment (from our now nearly empty video rental store. They're closing and then what?). It was really distressing and not at all as conversation-inducing as we'd thought it would be.

Mom leaves for Europe tomorrow so I opened my family birthday presents a few days early while Lori and I were together with Mom. [livejournal.com profile] kiaarra got me a t-shirt upon which she ironed-on fanart of Cybersix <333 Lori got me shiny pretty makeup so that's awesome too.

On Monday we'll have a quiet board game night since Lori still won't be able to eat anything fun.

Oh, I know no one out there cares as much as me, but I found a website the other day that's quite a step in the right direction wrt keeping track of movies in the same way goodreads keeps track of books. It's here

ETA: I remember what I forgot. I was going to do many of these internet things before, you know, 1am, but the internet was down. After doing all my normal things to fix it, I shrugged and assumed a problem with Shaw. Eventually Mom called them and discovered that we have a button on her computer that shuts off the internet Why do we even HAVE that lever?

Today I watched How to Train Your Dragon )

Okay, first of all, I don't want to make my journal locked. Occasionally I like to direct people here who are not on LJ and I don't feel that they should need to register to read my posts. That being said, I am NOT thrilled with the idea of anyone on my facebook being able to come over and look at them Please don't crosspost any of my stuff and I will look into whether or not I need to make my journal friendlocked. If it is, I guess I'll have to start figuring out how to actually use my dreamwidth.

The rest of this I was going to post on Thursday but then we got busy at work.

Guys guys guys! C recovered the stuff off my hardrive!!! She is the best C I ever did see!!! I have my pictures back! Now we’re going to buy me a new one and see if I can get them to throw in a North American plug adaptor. Then we’re going to freeze the old one for science.

Yesterday [livejournal.com profile] jocondite finally got me out to the Tapas restaurant that she likes so much and I can see why. It was really good food, nice atmosphere and reasonably priced for the amount and quality of what we got. I was pleased that we got to treat [livejournal.com profile] shihadchick to a nice restaurant for her b-day because what she wants for her b-day dinner tonight is fish and chips … *gives her a funny look* … she’s not looking.

Thank you all for your thoughts on my last post. Despite all your advice and love from you NZ peeps, I think I’m still leaning towards going home. We’ll see. Now to figure out if I can stay an extra couple weeks and decide if I should go to Melbourne Armageddon.

In all my angst about last weekend, I forgot to post about how much fun I had! On Saturday we went shopping for clothes and I managed to buy nothing! Actually, we were mostly unsuccessful but we did have fun! Then we were super stealthy in getting C to L and V’s place where they had made the MOST AWESOME CAKE (pictures of cake and all of us at mini-golf can be found here: http://shihadchick.livejournal.com/1542211.html#cutid1)

Then we kidnapped a B and watched most of Tipping the Velvet until 4 am (so much fun!) On Sunday we went out, stayed too long in Esqures and ended up just bringing B back here again for dinner of stir fry before bringing her back home. We did get her addicted to Better Off Ted :D
Hopefully we shall do more fun things this weekend despite our inability to organize ponies.

ETA: HTML fixed. One day I'm going to remember that microsoft word changes my quotation marks into something LJ doesn't recognize.

Guys, I learned today that New Zealand’s basketball team is called ‘The Tall Blacks’. Groan! I can’t figure out if it’s clever or just sad.

For those of you unfamiliar with New Zealand, the main sports team, the rugby team is called ‘The All Blacks’.
Soccer - All Whites
Cricket - Black Caps
Hockey - Black Sticks
Ice Hockey - Ice Blacks
Softball - Black Sox

Yeah, I think the basketball one is the most ridiculous one. Have I missed any, NZ peeps?

On the way to work today (C's car is in for repairs), Hayden asked what we’d thought of Inception. Having spend much of the previous night reading [livejournal.com profile] nova33’s Arthur/Eames fic recs, I had to swallow my tongue. Then C said something about liking that the kid from thrid rock had grown up to be in bigger and better things and Hayden said yes, he really liked his character. I had to stop before I said 'my other favourite character was that Eames guy' *facepalm*

Uhhh. ... hi guys. I should maybe post more often?

All of the things!
Finished Cryoburn, the most recent Lois McMaster Bujold book. ("You know what has eight legs? Two ponies!")

Watching Avatar: The Last Airbender with [livejournal.com profile] shihadchick I remain super in love with all that it is.

We've also stayed caught up on Leverage despite killing our internet and having to spend 14 hours downloading the most recent episode.

I really want to be watching new Eureka but I've decided to rewatch it all with C before getting to the new stuff. Also, bandwidth limitations.

Watched Inception a couple weeks ago.

Made everyone watch Clue. I think I was the most delighted of all by this turn of events.

House sitting at a HUGE mansion with a pool that's too cold to use, a hot tub we've used extensively, 2 ponds, which we've named Amy and Rory, 4 cats and many fish. I'm glad there are two of us in it to mitigte its horrible emptiness, but C goes to Melbourne next weekend. I'm trying to con people into joining me here for that few days.

Mystery surveys rock.

Harddrive has died along with all my pictures. I'd like to make a request that if anyone has some decent (or really touristy) pictures of me in my Tilley Hat, that they send them along. I should be able to get myself a new one at half-price that way. ([livejournal.com profile] kiaarra I've got pictures of Africa and stuff backed up on my external at your. It's probably in Waterloo and not with you though ne?)

Today we get a [livejournal.com profile] digitalsprawl and a Shihad concert and now it's 2pm and I should go make myself some breakfast.

I'm going to try and post more again ... Twitter's bad for my LJ habits.

Oh, so other, not Taiwan things:

One, if you're going through the Hong Kong airport, leave yourself at least an hour in transit because that airport is huge! I took no less than two trains to get to my gate.

Two, watched Avatar in the plane. I can't even express all the issues I have with that movie. I can't even figure out what exactly my problem with it is except that it really got under my sking and everything started to bug me (like if they can telepathically communicate with the planet, why are they a warrior culture? And why are they humanoid and why do they reproduce sexually and WHY DO THEY HAVE BELLYBUTTONS (seriously, that kept bothering me. yes, I know I'm strange). it really was like Fern Gully only on crack. It should have been marketed at 8 year olds. Where was my grey-area? Anyway ...

Finally, Happy Birthday to all the people whose birthdays I missed (there were quite a few of them) and congratulations to my friend who got engaged while I was gone!

My day yesterday )
Kick Ass )

I heard the Glee version of Don't Stop Believing three times in the mall yesterday. No one knew about that song here until Glee! There's something so wrong about that.

Now for flailing about Greek: )

Hey [livejournal.com profile] ghostj, remember that day last year in Toronto where we sat on University and ate pocky and hi-chews and watched helicopters take establishing shots for a movie? Well it's out in theaters soon (now?). I wish you were here to go see it with me :)
michanna: (Default)
Saw Princess and the Frog. Have good thoughts and bad thoughts, none of which I'm motivated enough to articulate. Comment if you want and I'll respond.
michanna: (Default)
Watched Tin Man )
As for the plane movies, Changeling was awesome, My Sister's Keeper was as touching as expected, Shrink was kind of a mish mosh but somehow it still kind of worked and Moon was good but I've seen better episodes of sci-fi TV shows with the exact same plot.
michanna: (Default)
[livejournal.com profile] otsquee and I got together and impromptu invited [livejournal.com profile] the_antichris and [livejournal.com profile] cthylla to join us in honour of my bringing DEBS back from Guelph. Everyone had a great time. I may have made a fool of myself as I usually do when watching that movie ...
I found the A Little Respect song by Erasure on DDR the other day and clearly did not fall all over myself squeeing ... *is a little fangirl at heart*

In other news, why is my LJ undead?
michanna: (Default)
Watched Little Miss Sunshine. Thought it was adorable but disturbing.

In other news, Con-G has an LJ community now so we can advertise and answer questions that way. Our username is Con-G.

Speaking of advertising, if anyone knows anywhere or anyone that might be interested in helping us promote Con-G or might be interested in being promoted by Con-G or a free place for us to advertise, please let me know.

Okay, someone the other day was talking to me about the movie list I made last March. They wanted to see the final result to help them decide on a movie to rent. Final List )

Although I think movies are the easiest thing to do this with, people have also suggested I make a list like this where people can debate TV, music and books. I did have a lot of fun moderating this list so if people are interested in these other lists, let me know and I'll start them.

So I finally watched Forbidden Kingdom today. Liked it, as expected. Nothing too exciting to say about it - I'm just happy I finally got to see it.

Still no job news. Tomorrow I intend to HOUND them.

Picked up To Say Nothing of the Dog from the bookshelf of [livejournal.com profile] strayfish as a result of the recommendation of [livejournal.com profile] shihadchick a while back and I haven't been able to put it down. Awesome.

Fireball whiskey goes good in apple cider.

My friend is having a medieval wedding on Saturday and apparently I'm going - I don't have a thing to wear!

I'm researching smoke because we want to use a visible gas to test how well the seal on our 41X project works. I found a site that gives simple instructions on how to make a good smoke bomb and I was amused. Then Tyler G suggested that I may have to make blue ones and tie them to squirrels for engg prank week. *is SO amused*

Watched Cloverfield yesterday. It was quite good for what it was. It was a very good depiction of how a monster attack would really go down at ground zero for the civilians. I liked it. I did not find it scary, but I'm way more perturbed by the paranormal than by giant f'ing monsters, so decide for yourself. There were some jumpy moments.
In the movie credits, there was a Samuel Carter and a Josh Sheppard and that pretty much amused me all day.

I ate so much good food this weekend! I went out for Chinese on Friday night, then for fresh bread on Saturday morning and dim sum and then we went to Winterlicious, which is this thing where fancy restaurants put out a reduced price limited menu for the duration of the event and you reserve a spot and go to the restaurant. We went to Auberge du pomme and the soup was amazing (blend of winter vegetables with braised lamb garnish), the tuna was really interesting (seared on a bed of boiled new potato with soaked cabbage rolled in shredded cilantro and candied lemon peel)and the desert (chocolate almond torte) was amazing. On Sunday morning, we went for Korean food for breakfast and then picked up lunch at a Chinese bakery. So good!
On Saturday night, Silvie, Meji and I went to see Atonement and it was quite good. I liked the way the movie jumped around and the theme of it was unusual. Not too bad all around.
Now I'm back at school and it's late enough in the semester that I really should start working harder ...

For those of you keeping track, Beowulf and Grendel is a million times better than Beowulf in that it has plot, characterization, a theme, a message and really horses that fuckin move right.
