My morning bus driver is infuriating. One of these days she's going to realize that while rules are important, she works in the service industry. The thing that infuriates me most, however, is how she bloody apologizes and tries to explain every decision. I'm not sure if she's trying to rationalize to the passenger in question or herself but either way, it's annoying.
For instance, if I ask her to stop at an irregular place, the first thing I'd expect the bus driver to say is yes, the second thing is no. I do not, however, appreciate having to listen to how she's 'really sorry sweetie, but it's a dangerous corner and she doesn't think she can stop there' twice.
So this girl gets to the bus at about 8:08 this morning and says she was running late because her friend's car didn't start. She said she didn't have exact cash but there was a line to buy tickets inside and she couldn't afford to miss the bus and then asked if the bus driver could either wait a minute or take the non-exact cash. First, the driver couldn't make a decision. She was all 'is the line long? how long will you take? what change do you have? well you could go in but I leave at 8:10 and I can't hold up the bus for you, I could take your change but what if other people without exact change get on later and I don't have enough change for them? yadda yadda' and I'm sitting there thinking, 'make a bloody choice!' The passenger's being perfectly reasonable here! So the girl decides to get on and give the bus driver her $20 and the bus driver starts a long-winded explanation of how it sucks but she can't hold up the bus and how she can't afford to have people getting on without exact change because she doesn't have enough change to deal with that. You can tell that this other passenger's a little ticked off, but she's trying to be understanding.
At this point, I'm getting so annoyed that I'm preparing speaches to go up and defend this girl and tell the bus driver that when the passenger understands the situation, is polite and offers you choices of action, there's a point where you should be gracious and make some allowances in the rules to, you know, serve the people. Of course, by the time I worked up the nerve, I'd missed my window. It's too bad I didn't have a shot of vodka with breakfast or I'd have been all over her.
Then, to make matters worse, the driver got angry at a biker for turning at the same corner she was turning at. And by got angry, I mean she whined 'oh, don't do that, now I can't turn' when she saw his signal. So annoying. Shut up and make me believe you can do your job with competence!
I'll post about AN once I find better pics to link to. Mostly it was awesome and two weeks later, I still can't believe it's over.
