Okay, so I went into it expecting nothing but action and the ability to slash the characters for amusement. What I got was soo much more. I didn't need to slash them at all; they did it to themselves. Literally. The action was entertaining, the verbal sparring was more than I'd hoped for. The plot wasn't much, but it did at least hang together and, I reiterate, OMG THE SLASH.
When you fic reading people find good fic for this, as I'm sure you will (Nari, I'm looking at you) please forward it my way.

narikalen, simsabalim, otsquee, toastninja, teddy0bear and I went to see it last night. I loved it and have decided to own it so I can watch it over and over again. I was a bit disppointed that a few bits from the trailers weren't left in the movie but overall I really didn't much notice because I was distracted by Holmes and Watson bickering like and old married couple and being adorable.

If I find good fic I'll send it your way. I warn you it may be a bit on the gen side though because that's mostly what I read.

However, Holmes and Watson (like House and Wilson) have always pretty much slashed themselves in the canon. :D

I know next to nothing about the cannon. I know that this movie does not closely follow the cannon. I have never personally read any Sherlock Holmes or other A.C. Doyle work. Perhaps I should ... then again, maybe not.

Ever since I saw the preview were Holmes says something akin to "Watson, you're a great companion because you don't talk." and then Watson punches him in the face I knew this was my sort of movie and my sort of slash.

Lols, see this is why I odn't want to see it...
well really I don't want to see it over some misguided feeling that if you are going to BOTHER making a Sherlock Holmes movie you should make it acurate to the books... But as I'm writing this, I understand that's not how Hollywood rolls :(

Rofl. Okay, you have to go into it knowing that it's not actually Sherlock Holmes. It's not even a good mystery story. It's kind of like a bunch of other things they've done recently where they take an established fandom, decide to capitalize on the big name in order to write a kick ass story that really doesn't belong to the fandom they're writing it at all :D

While ostracizing the fans, they attract the bigger, less caring market who thoroughly enjoys the film despite how it should have been an original story instead of bastardizing our beloved characters.

I have decided to try and see these stories as separate fandoms in order to enjoy the entertainment value of the movie anyway :)

Ugh. I can't bring myself to go see Avatar. Its environmental themes are brutalized and dislocated and it has so many racism problems that my friends here wouldn't go with me even if I were interested. That and it stole the name from Avatar: The Last Airbender and won't let them use it for that film, which comes out next year.
